We don't just say we believe in transparency, we like to show it. Here is the history of our website.

Following some thinking and time to reflect, we decided to take PhyType in a new direction. Instead of targeting the Jamstack niche as we originally did on the first version of the website, we are now targetting the climbing niche, this includes everything from Rock Climbing to Bouldering. It could be an individual in those sports we work with or a publication that reports on it or a company that makes the equipment. Anything and everything related to the sport we are interested in providing web services for to help them and the community as a whole grow.

That's why we've brought a new website design with us on this journey, we still adopt many of the old principles that we lived by like deploying an MVP fast and iterating on it which is why this website doesn't have all the features of the old yet. We're starting small with the core pages and growing out but don't worry, they'll all be here soon and better than ever.

Overall, we're really happy with the new direction the company is heading in and this new website is going to be a massive help in supporting that.

This update of our website is largely an 'under-the-hood' type of deal. We have refined our code and integration with Prismic (our CMS) to allow for quicker deployments, faster building and more efficient designing. Essentially, a few hours of work for some massive savings in the future so time well spent.

Things we did in this update consist of automatically wrapping each page in a Header, Contact Form and Footer components so they don't need to be manually added on each page in Prismic. Also decreasing errors because they are just configured from one individual place and not on every occurrence. And then, we also added an SEO component that allows for custom configuration of each page/post SEO.

Overall, a great update and one we can wait to start experiencing the benefits of.

This is a two-pronged approach and one I recommend to clients as well. 1) It helps you prove knowledge and experience to potential clients and 2) It helps boost your website's SEO scores and get more people looking at your website potentially bringing in more clients.

In this version of the website, we have added another new section to the home page of the website showing the different steps involved in designing a website with us. Or, what we are referring to as 'the journey' because ultimately this is what we will go again together. 

When building a website it's not about one-way communication of us telling you what to do because 'we know best'. That's an antiquated way of thinking and something we are working to remove completely. You know your business and we know how to solve problems so by going on a journey together we can make the best product possible for you and your business.

Jamstack is the core of our business, all of our websites use this amazing group of technologies. That's why in this new version we have added a new section dedicated to it on our home page showing it to all of our users and potential clients.

This is important to us because we want our clients to understand why we use these technologies over something else like WordPress or a site builder.  We believe in being transparent and open so why not show off our reasoning and explain it.

In this version, we have centred around the implementation of the public Changelog available on our site. This has included, creating the new Changelog page and linking to it from the home page. This is quite an important change for us because we believe in practising what we preach. We say we will build and deploy fast, this page will serve as our proof to the world we are doing just that on our site.

In this version along with adding the Changelog page, we have also added in the required meta and Open Graph tags to allow for shared links to show using cards on social media and to show the correct information in search results.

This change also included a couple of other minor fixes, which are: 1) Linking the logo at the top of the screen in the header back to the home page to align with common behaviour on the web. And, 2) Fixing a browser error on the home page that was relating to the nesting of p tags.

Today marks the official release of the website and publication of version 1.0 to the domain. In this version,  it is a simple MVP landing page which we will later build on to create spur pages off. This is all part of our design ethos of build fast. By releasing an MVP early on, we can get feedback from users and implement changes as needed to make the experience better for everyone.
